COSMO is Imoria's seventh film a hand-drawn animated short inspired by the timeless magic of Pixar and Disney storytelling. The film follows a small, curious star named Cosmo as he drifts through the lonely depths of space, searching for connection and light in the vast unknown. Born out of lockdown, the project became a creative escape a chance to tell a heartfelt story about discovery, wonder, and hope when the world felt most distant.

Featuring Charlie Bond as Cosmo and James Hamer-Morton as Nova, COSMO was written and directed by Joey Lever, co-directed and animated by Kannawee Inthasit, with VFX by Joey Lever, Nero Omar, and the talented team at Junkart Films. The original score, composed by Devesh Sodha and orchestrated by Ruitik Joshi, was performed by the world-renowned Budapest Scoring Orchestra the same ensemble behind Star Wars, Zootopia, and Elder Scrolls. The film’s final mix was crafted by legendary sound engineer Alan Meyerson (The Dark Knight, Dune, Big Hero 6, Dunkirk), with sound design by Dafydd A. Mann.

This project marked a milestone for us from diving into hand-drawn animation for the first time to collaborating with some of the most respected talents in the industry. COSMO is a love letter to imagination, music, and the belief that even in the darkest corners of space, light will always find a way.

How COSMO was made

When I began writing COSMO, I set myself three clear goals:

  1. Tell a fun but deeply emotional story about something that isn’t human.

  2. Tell that story in under four minutes.

  3. Tell it through a unique art style.

With those boundaries in place, the idea formed quickly a fully fledged story starring a little star, drifting through the lonely depths of space.

Inspiration

The heart of COSMO beats with inspiration from Pixar Shorts, 90s animation, and classic Disney storytelling. There’s something truly magical about how those shorts can express so much emotion without a single word, and I wanted to capture that same sense of wonder. During lockdown, when live-action filming wasn’t possible, this became the perfect moment to bring that dream to life to tell a story through art, sound, and imagination.

Storyboards

Storyboarding COSMO was one of the most crucial stages in the process. It allowed us to carefully visualize every beat of the story and experiment with composition, pacing, and motion before a single frame of animation was created. Once the visual style and tone were locked in, production flowed seamlessly we only made a few small tweaks along the way, including a spontaneous new scene featuring a dinosaur that became one of our favorite moments.

Animation

Bringing COSMO to life required finding an artist who could merge vision with individuality. That person was Kannawee Inthasit (fahsangoldenfish) an incredibly talented animator and the perfect co-director for this project. She poured her heart into every frame, combining my direction with her own creative instincts to craft something far beyond what I could have imagined alone. a thank you also goes to Nero Omar (nerodoesstuff) for his exceptional VFX work at the end with the big bang

Together, we built COSMO not just as an animation, but as an experience a blend of storytelling, music, and art that reminds us that even in the quietest corners of the universe, magic still exists.

The Orchestra & Alan Meyerson

Music has always been at the heart of storytelling, and with COSMO, we wanted to create something that truly felt larger than life.

The score was composed by Devesh Sodha, an award-winning international composer for film, TV, theatre, and games. Over the past decade, Devesh has built a remarkable career crafting emotionally rich and cinematic soundtracks — and his work on COSMO was no exception. His music gave the film its soul, perfectly capturing the sense of wonder, loneliness, and beauty that defines the story.

To bring his compositions to life, we collaborated with the world-renowned Budapest Scoring Orchestra — a 59-piece ensemble whose incredible musicians have performed on legendary franchises like Star Wars, Disney’s Zootopia, and The Elder Scrolls. We connected with them live over Zoom, watching and directing as they recorded the score in real time. Hearing our story come alive through their performance was a surreal experience — one of those rare creative moments that remind you why you love filmmaking.

The final mix was completed by Alan Meyerson, one of the most respected sound engineers in Hollywood, whose credits include The Dark Knight, Dune, Big Hero 6, and Dunkirk. His expertise elevated the soundscape to a whole new level, giving COSMO the polish and emotional depth worthy of its story.

The result was more than just a soundtrack it became the heartbeat of the film. A symphony of emotion that guided COSMO’s journey through the stars and made this tiny hand-drawn world feel infinite.
